Public Works

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining all Town-owned properties, all infrastructure within the public rights-of-way, all public water & sewer utilities, and the Town fleet of vehicles and equipment. Public Works also provides curbside collection programs to residential customers such as refuse & recycling, spring & fall clean up, leaf collection, and brush collection. The Town’s environmental sustainability programs are coordinated by the Public Works Department through a comprehensive Environmental Management Program.

Office of the Director:

The Office of the Director administers the department’s resource allocation, performance measurement, design review, project management, emergency preparedness, and occupational safety responsibilities. For more information on the Office of the Director, call (540) 961-1825.

General Services Division:

The General Services Division is responsible for providing administrative support to the entire department to include reception services, personnel, payroll, accounting and budgeting. This division oversees the operation of the Town Garage which maintains the Town’s fleet of vehicles and equipment. The General Services Division is also responsible for the proper maintenance and operation of all Town buildings, to include custodial services. Field Operations Division:

The Field Operations Division is responsible for maintaining all infrastructures within the public rights-of-way, to include roadways, sidewalks, storm drains, traffic signals, parking meters, roadway signs, pavement markings, and median landscaping. This division is responsible for maintaining the grounds and landscaping for all Town facilities, parks and bike trails. The Field Operations Division is also responsible for street sweeping and roadway snow removal. For more information on the Field Operations Division, call (540) 961-1143.

Utilities Division:

The Utility Division is responsible for maintaining the Town’s water and sewer utility systems, to include all pumping stations. This division is also responsible for installing new water meter connections, performing annual fire hydrant flushing, and performing television inspection of new sanitary sewer mains. Office of Sustainability:

The Office of Sustainability manages the Town’s Environmental Management Program, to include the administration of the Environmental Management System Team, Environmental Management Advisory Board, the Mayor’s Task Force on Climate Protection & Sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
