Drinking water is tested at least 249 times a day, 7,757 times a month, and 93,602 times a year at the New River Valley Regional Water Authority. In accordance with federal and state regulations, the authority routinely monitors for 76 regulated, 48 unregulated and many non-regulated contaminants in your drinking water. Testing information may be found in the town’s Water Quality Report.
In order to maintain the safety of the town's drinking water, testing and analysis of the distribution system is performed periodically by the town. In addition, water storage tanks are constructed and inspected periodically to assure water supply for day to day needs of the community and in the event of emergencies. The town also administers a backflow prevention program to protect the water supply from contamination through back siphonage and other potential cross connections.
For information concerning backflow prevention please call James Higgins at 540-443-1358.

The regulation requires all counties, cities and towns in the Commonwealth of Virginia to develop and submit a water supply plan to the State Water Control Board.
The Water Supply Plan regulation requirements include: existing water source information, existing water use information, existing resource information, water demand management, drought response and contingency plans, projected water demand, and statement of need based on existing and future water sources and demands.
