The Housing and Neighborhood Services (HNS) Office supports and provides a variety of resources to help citizens obtain, keep, and maintain housing. The HNS Office administers two U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and the HOME Investments Partnerships program. The CDBG program works to ensure decent affordable housing, provide services to the most vulnerable in our community, and eliminate blighting influences in Blacksburg. The HNS Office serves as the lead entity for the HOME program which assists with the construction, buying, and rehabilitating of affordable housing for rent or homeownership.
The HNS Office administers the enforcement of nuisance codes (debris/trash, overgrown lawns, inoperable vehicles, etc.) within the Town of Blacksburg in a proactive manner to eliminate neighborhood blight. The HNS Office works to develop partnerships with neighborhoods and organizations to improve the quality of life in Blacksburg’s neighborhoods.
