This seasonal position will perform manual labor maintaining public areas and properties that may include: the downtown area, medians, municipal golf course, parks, bike trails and rights-of-way. Duties will include, but are not limited to: mowing and use of mowing equipment; planting and maintaining flowerbeds and landscaped areas; planting and pruning trees and shrubs; preparing ball fields for play; picking up trash along roadways and in landscaped areas; raking leaves and removing weeds from sidewalks. Employees may be required to work in more than one public area/property and with more than one immediate supervisor during the course of employment.
Qualified applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Professional landscaping or related work experience is required. Individuals must be self-motivated, possess an outstanding work ethic, be punctual, be able to work in groups or individually, be able to work in various climatic conditions, be able to work in a crouched or kneeling position for extended periods of time and lift heavy objects. A valid Virginia driver’s license and an excellent driving record are required. A satisfactory post-offer, pre-employment criminal background investigation will be required of the selected applicant.
The hourly rate range is $10.00 - $11.00, depending upon qualifications. Work schedule may vary and will be approximately 40 hours per week. The approximate duration of this position will be through November 2019. This position will not exceed 1,500 hours during the initial year of employment or during the Affordable Care Act measurement period of April 1st through March 31st.
