This position will perform repairs and preventive maintenance on Transit vehicles and equipment. Duties will include but are not limited to the following: service work on buses, Body on Chassis vans and support vehicles; change, balance and repair tires; assist in the removal of engines, transmissions and differentials; replace and adjust headlights; install and repair accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors and windshield wipers; and maintain both manual and electronic records of all work performed and parts used.
A high school diploma or GED, along with a minimum of 1 year of experience and/or training in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment is required. Qualified applicants must be able to use tire changer, tire balancer, air impact wrench, cutting torch and welding machine. The ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and specifications and use a computer for processing work orders and maintaining records is required. The ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds is required. A valid Virginia driver’s license with an excellent driving record is required. The selected applicant will be required to obtain a Virginia Commercial Driver’s License within six months of employment. A pre-employment drug screening will be required for the selected applicant. This position will follow the CDL drug testing guidelines during the employment period. A satisfactory post-offer, pre-employment criminal background investigation will be required of the selected applicant. Hours of work will be from 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.
Starting salary range is $26,234/year - $28,857/year, depending on qualifications. Retirement benefits are provided through the Virginia Retirement System. Direct Deposit of pay is required for all full-time employees.
