The Town of Blacksburg is currently planning for the restoration of the Alexander Black House and Cultural Center, which will serve as the headquarters for the Blacksburg Museum. The Black House, an 1897 Queen Anne Victorian home was moved to its location on Draper Road in 2002. The Black House will be a cultural center celebrating Blacksburg’s heritage while providing space for public and private events, educational programming, and the arts. St. Luke and Odd Fellows Hall, which was restored in April 2009 is a museum of African American Culture, positioned in the heart of the "New Town" area of Blacksburg.
While awaiting the restoration of the Alexander Black House, the Blacksburg Museum pursues its mission through innovative exhibits and programs that engage and enhance the community. The Historic Lecture Series, co-sponsored by Smithfield Plantation, the Sixteen Squares Walking Tour, and participation in community events such as Steppin’ Out are just some of the museum’s annual programs.
