Blacksburg Transit to Hold Christiansburg Mock Service Demonstration Friday
Posted Date: 8/19/2009

BT Arrow LogoIn preparation for Blacksburg Transit’s expanded service in Christiansburg, BT will host a mock service demonstration on Friday August 21st, from 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm. The demonstration will give BT personnel the opportunity to run the planned service, analyze the results and make any changes before service begins in November.

“The mock service demonstration also includes a benefit for the residents of Christiansburg,” according to Blacksburg Transit Director, Rebecca Martin. “The demonstration will be an exciting opportunity for both BT and Christiansburg as a whole. Citizens will be able to see how the system will function, where the vehicles will travel, and get a better feel for the upcoming service. Customer service is vitally important to us, hopefully we can open up the door for more input and more suggestions.”

Based on input received from an October 2008 survey, different types of routes such as circulators and flexible routes will be utilized to create the most efficient service possible in Christiansburg. The concept of a flexible system has some similarities to the existing BT ACCESS service that has excelled for over 25 years. Ultimately, the Mock Service Demonstration will allow citizens to see how the service will function while providing BT with opportunities for team building and familiarization with Christiansburg.

Blacksburg Transit representatives will make presentations to groups beginning in September regarding the upcoming service. To schedule a presentation or to find out more information on the upcoming Christiansburg service, contact Fiona Rhodes at frhodes@blacksburg.gov or 540-961-1185.
