The Town of Blacksburg Planning and Building Department has received a request to rezone approximately 1.289 acres from the Office Zoning District to the General Commercial Zoning District at 111 Southpark Dr. (Tax Parcel 347-18-11A) by Blaine Shively, of Virginia Blue Ridge, LLC, on behalf of SDP Southpark, LLC (property owner).  The request entails the construction of a four story hotel with a total of 66 guest rooms, associated parking, and other improvements. There is an accompanying request for a special exception to allow parking in front of the building line (31 spaces of 68 spaces). The property will be under common ownership and management as the neighboring Courtyard Marriott, located at 105 Southpark Drive).  The following meetings have been scheduled to review this request: 

Neighborhood Meeting: Thursday, Sept. 28, at 5:30 pm; Blacksburg Motor Company Building, 400 S. Main St. This is an informal meeting that will give the applicant the opportunity to present the plans and provide the attendees with the opportunity to ask questions.  A staff member from the Planning and Building Department will forward the notes from the meeting to the Planning Commission and Town Council.   
Planning Commission Work Session: Tuesday, Oct. 17, 5 p.m.; Blacksburg Motor Company Building, 400 S. Main St. The Planning Commission will review the request and the staff report. There will be an opportunity for the applicant to present the proposal. The public is welcome to attend, however this is not a public hearing and there will not be an opportunity for public comment during the meeting.
Planning Commission Public Hearing: Tuesday, Nov. 7, 7:30 pm; Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers, Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the request and make recommendation to the Town Council. There will be an opportunity for public input at this hearing.
Town Council Work Session: TBD The Town Council will review the request, the Planning Commission's recommendation, and the staff report. There will be an opportunity for the applicant to present the proposal. The public is welcome to attend, however this is not a public hearing, and there will not be an opportunity for public comment during the meeting.
Town Council Public Hearing: TBD The Town Council will hold a public hearing on the request and take final action on the requests. There will be an opportunity for public input at this meeting.
