A new opportunity for retail entrepreneurs is taking shape in Downtown Blacksburg, and applications are now open.
Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. (DBI), in partnership with the Town of Blacksburg, has officially launched the tenant application for The Local @ 414, a new Retail Incubator opening in Fall 2026 that will provide affordable storefront space and hands-on business support in the heart of downtown.
To help strengthen the broader small business community, including aspiring entrepreneurs, early-stage startups, and existing Blacksburg businesses, DBI and the Town are partnering with America’s Greater Roanoke & NRV SBDC (Small Business Development Center) to offer a free, four-week Business Planning Workshop Series this April.
Workshop Details:
Dates: April 1, 8, 15, 22
Time: 6:00–8:00 PM
Location: Blacksburg Police Department Community Room, 200 Clay Street SE, Blacksburg VA
Cost: Free (registration required)
Open to entrepreneurs at every stage, the interactive series is designed to support businesses, whether participants plan to apply for The Local @ 414 or simply want to grow where they are. Sessions will focus on refining business concepts, strengthening marketing, operations, and financial strategies, and building a clear, actionable plan for sustainable growth.
Entrepreneurs may register for the workshop series, apply for the incubator’s inaugural cohort, or take advantage of both opportunities.
Opening Fall 2026, The Local @ 414 Retail Incubator will support emerging small businesses with affordable retail space, tailored technical assistance, and ongoing mentorship. Beyond retail storefronts, the space will feature a café, flexible event space, and year-round programming designed to foster collaboration and serve as a vibrant community gathering place.
The initiative represents a significant investment in local entrepreneurship. It reflects the shared commitment of DBI and the Town to strengthening the local economy and enhancing the vitality of Downtown Blacksburg.
Space for the workshop series is limited, and early registration is encouraged.
