South Main Street Northbound Lane Closures – Area Construction Begins June 1
Beginning on Monday, June 1, DCI Shires will begin completing the last segments of new sewer construction for the Cedar Run/South Main Sewer project. Construction work will occur on and across South Main Street between King Street and Ellet Road over the next several months and will involve intermittent lane closures of both northbound and southbound lanes of South Main Street. During the closures:
- One lane of traffic will be maintained in both directions at all times.
- Detour signs will be in place to direct traffic to alternate access points for CVS and Dunkin' while work occurs in the vicinity of their business entrances.
This work is expected to last approximately two months. After all work is complete, the road will be milled, repaved, and re-striped.
When complete, this project will have replaced approximately 4,500 feet of 60-year-old vitrified clay pipe with larger PVC pipe to reduce rainfall-derived infiltration and inflow to the sewers and to accommodate continued growth within the Town.

There will be a partial road closure Lora Lane and Summit Drive on July 20-23 from 7am – 5pm. Flagging crews will be on site to direct traffic around the closure. The closure is due to Shentel laying conduit in the area.

There will be a partial road closure Elizabeth Drive and Golfview Drive on July 15-20 from 7am – 5pm. Flagging crews will be on site to direct traffic around the closure. The closure is due to Shentel laying conduit in the area.

There will be a partial road closure along Broce Drive between Toms Creek Road and Elizabeth Drive on July 15-20 from 7am – 5pm. Flagging crews will be on site to direct traffic around the closure. The closure is due to Shentel laying conduit in the area.
Partial Road Closure: McBryde Ln. and Buchanan Dr. – July 13-17
There will be a partial road closure along McBryde Lane and on Buchanan Drive on July 13-14 from 7am – 5pm. Flagging crews will be on site to direct traffic around the closure. The closure is due to Shentel laying conduit in the area.
Partial Road Closure: Jefferson St. – June 30 – July 14
There will be a partial closure on Jefferson Street between Lee and Washington Street on June 30 – July 14 from 8am – 5pm. Flagging crews will be on site to direct traffic around the closure. The closure is due to Atmos crews doing work in the area.
Partial Closure Mohawk and Seminole Dr. – June 29 – July 10
There will be partial closures along Mohawk Drive and Seminole Drive on June 29 – July 10 from 7am-5pm. Flagging crews will be on site to direct traffic around the closure. The closure is due to Shentel laying conduit in the area.
Partial Road Closure: Progress St. – June 1 – August 1
There will be a partial road closure on Progress Street from North Main Street to approximately Winston Avenue on June 1 – Augus 1. The closure is due to the construction of sidewalk, curb and gutter in the area.
Preston Avenue Closure - Begins June 2
Beginning on Tuesday, June 2, work will begin on the Preston Avenue Sewer Rehabilitation project and is expected to last approximately 2 months. To accommodate this work, Preston Avenue from Airport Road to Eakin Street SW will be closed to through traffic; local traffic only will have access. After the work is complete, Preston Avenue will be resurfaced. During this project, please expect a variety of the following to occur in the work area:
- Temporary restrictions to on-street parking
- Detours or lane closures
- Temporary sidewalk closures
- Noise and dust from construction
- For area residents: limited, short-term restrictions on house sewer use
- For area staff: The staff parking spots located in the lot off of Harrell Street and Miller Street SW will be closed; a map showing alternative parking locations can be found here. The nearby Huckleberry Trail parking spots will remain open.

One-way Conversion for a Portion of Eheart Street SW
The Town of Blacksburg is completing changes within the existing Town right-of-way on the western side of Eheart Street, in coordination with upcoming street repaving, over the next several weeks. The overall project includes a cycle track for continuous two-way bicycle travel from Willard Drive to the Huckleberry Trail. To accommodate these changes, Eheart Street SW will become one-way for vehicles from Preston Avenue to Main Street, exiting towards the Main Street traffic signal. The northbound left-turn lane from Main Street to Eheart Street SW will also be removed. Eheart Street SE will remain open to two-way vehicular travel. This connection provides important infrastructure for the biking community that does not currently exist.

Winston Ave. Closure thru April 2028
Winston Avenue will be closed from Progress Street to Kabrich Street. The closure is anticipated to remain in place until April 15, 2028. This closure is due to the major construction project at 801 North Main Street.
