Citizens of Blacksburg are reminded that disinfecting wipes and paper towels are not to be flushed down the toilet. Wipes are among the leading causes of sewer system backups. Wipes, paper towels and similar products are causing back ups and overflows within the town limits. This creates an additional public health risk in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Even wipes labeled “flushable” will clog pipes and interfere with sewage collection and treatment. Please, only flush toilet paper.
