Climate change continues to be a defining issue of the 21st century with evidence mounting that continued inaction on greenhouse gas emissions could lead to catastrophic changes, destabilizing the very systems that support and sustain human civilizations. The Virginia Tech community has an imperative role to play in reducing its environmental impact, educating others, and striving towards a more sustainable future.
In many ways, the future of Virginia Tech and Blacksburg are tightly intertwined; and the VT Climate Action Commitment Working Group wants to ensure community members’ voices are included in the revision process. As part of the 2020 Virginia Tech Climate Action Commitment revision process and Earth Week 2020 taking place next week, university and community members are invited to engage with the over 125 students, staff, faculty members, and other community members already involved in the revision process.

- Lightning videos from each of the Climate Action Commitment subcommittees to get you up to speed on their individual work to advance the goals and process of the revision efforts;

- Registration details for a set of 12 virtual Climate Action Commitment Revision Convenings taking place between April 22-28 via Zoom. These virtual sessions will focus on the array of topics being considered for the revision process: agriculture, forestry & land use; building opportunities; energy opportunities; renewable energy opportunities; climate justice; greenhouse gas inventory; waste, recycling & procurement; as well as a few general sessions. Each virtual convening session will offer an opportunity for community members to share their perspectives and priorities on these topics as they relate to climate change, and hear from others in the community. Community members may attend as many sessions as they would like. They are open to university students, faculty/staff, alumni, and community members but registration is required.
