The Comprehensive Plan is the community’s vision for Blacksburg’s future. Learn more about the current plan. This is the document that helps guide decision making in our community. We are doing a major update for the plan throughout 2017 and 2018. We want you to be engaged!


Based on the survey and public input, we've been preparing draft documents and maps.  We want you share your comments on the future of Blacksburg as elements of the updated community vision are posted on this website.

We will be updating the Comprehensive Plan throughout 2017 and 2018. The plan is a combination of text and maps in 12 chapters. The chapter titles are below and the updated drafts will be posted here with a public comment period. Public input meetings will also be held for the draft chapters. As soon as meeting dates are established, they will be posted here.

The Comprehensive Plan also includes a Land Use Map Series with the four maps below.  These links are to the adopted maps and do not include proposed changes.

Map A: Future Land Use

Map B: Urban Development Areas & Inter-Jurisdictional Areas

Map C: Neighborhood, Employment, and Service Areas

Map D: Pathways to the Future

Changes to these maps are proposed with the update to the Plan.  There was an opportunity for private landowners to request consideration of changes to the future land use designations on their property.  There were six such requests and those applications are posted below.
