Annually Town Council considers citizen appointments to various boards, commissions and committees. Statement of Interest applications are reviewed when openings arise. Interested citizens should complete the Statement of Interest application and forward it to the Town Clerk at clerk@blacksburg.gov or P.O. Box 90003, Blacksburg, VA 24062-9003 for consideration by Town Council.
To learn more about the Town of Blacksburg and get to know town staff and elected officials, sign up for the annual Citizens Institute which takes place in the spring. Participation in the Citizens Institute is also a great way to gain experience if you’re interested in a future appointment to a town board or committee.

| Meets 3rd Tuesday of the month (when applications are filed); Time: 3 p.m. Location: Blacksburg Motor Company Conference Room | The Agricultural and Forestal District Committee reviews applications for the inclusion of land within an Agricultural and Forestal District and makes recommendations to the Planning Commission and Town Council regarding the establishment, modification, and termination of such districts. The committee consists of one Town Council member, the Director of Financial Services, four landowners whose property is located within the district, and four landowners from the Town at large. |

The Board of Building Code Appeals is responsible for hearing and deciding appeals of determinations made by the local building, property maintenance or fire code official concerning compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building code, Virginia Property Maintenance code and/or Virginia Fire Statewide Prevention code. |

The Board reviews each case and makes decisions based on the Town’s zoning requirements and applicable laws. Members are appointed by the Circuit Court upon recommendation of the Town Council. |

Blacksburg Planning Commission reviews issues related to community growth and development. The commission makes recommendations to Town Council on zoning and subdivision policies and land development requests. Public hearings are held by the Planning Commission to allow citizens to speak on land use recommendations which are then forwarded to Town Council for final action.
