Description:

Conditional Use Permit request (CUP-25-7) for Educational Facilities-College and University use in R&D Research and Development District for a new facility for the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM).  As part of the application, the applicant is requesting a modification to Zoning Ordinance Section 5310(i) to allow a Type B Buffer Yard instead of the required Type C Buffer Yard along the eastern portion of the property adjacent to the VUE Apartments.  The modification is requested because the VUE Apartments sit at a significantly higher elevation than the VCOM site.  Additionally, the reduction to a Type B Buffer Yard is needed to provide a trail connection to the VUE Apartments from VCOM and provide expanded outdoor space.  New signage is proposed as part of the application.  The Town of Blacksburg Comprehensive Plan Future Land Use designation is Research and Development.  The proposed development does not affect the density of this site.
